The nursing concept of Wiener Privatklinik

The nursing concept of Wiener Privatklinik is implemented by all staff members who are involved in the nursing process. This concept defines the nursing services provided for our patients and serves as guidance for all employees.

The nursing services provided for the patients of Wiener Privatklinik focus on:

  • maintaining the patients’ individuality
  • taking account of the patients’ special habits
  • preserving the patients’ privacy
  • respecting the patients’ dignity and self determination
  • maintaining the patients’ independence
  • enabling the patients’ to die a dignified death

The relationship between our nursing staff and our patients is based on the following principles:

  • respect
  • support
  • inclusion
  • information

Respecting, supporting, including and informing patients above all means to meet the individual needs and requirements of our patients. But what does it mean for our daily work with the patients?

  Respecting patients means
  • to ask them about their medical history and their individual experiencing of their illness;
  • to be patient;
  • to express doubts and feelings;
  • to respect the will and the decisions of the patient;
  • to respect cultural values and religious requirements;
  • to talk to patients in a protected environment;
  • to protect patients from onlookers;
  • to be friendly to the patients;
  • to introduce oneself by giving one’s name and function;
  • to tell the patients which members of the nursing staff are responsible for them;
  • to respect oneself and one’s own limitations;
  • to be honest and frank and
  • to be aware of one’s own sphere of competences.
  Supporting patients means
  • to have a welcoming interview within the first hour after the patient’s admission to the hospital;
  • to gather comprehensive nursing-relevant information about the patient within the first 24 hours;
  • to support the patients in their decision making;
  • to help the patients assume their personal responsibility;
  • to assist the patients in their daily routines.

Including patients means
  • to take account of the patients’ habits and needs;
  • to identify nursing priorities depending on the patients’ state of health;
  • to lay down nursing objectives together with the patients;
  • to involve the patients and the person closest to the patient in the nursing activities.
  Informing patients means
  • to explain the procedure in a comprehensible way and to perform all activities in a professional manner;
  • to ask if the information was understood;
  • to inform the patients about the daily routine at the hospital and about the hospital’s structural conditions;
  • to inform the patients about reason and purpose of the nursing planning;
  • to explain to the patients how the nursing objectives and the nursing interventions are connected with each other.
