“The
aging man with all his problems (prostate troubles, cancer of the
prostate, impotence, depression, osteoporosis) is the main concern of
urologists” says Prof. Dr. Georg Schatzl. ![]() Benign
disease of the prostate affects all men over the age of 50 and is
accompanied by troubles when urinating (Figure 1). Clarification and
therapy of the disease is performed by non-invasive methods such as for
example a measurement of the urine stream and an ultrasound examination. Various conservative options are available that are
performed with state-of-the-art therapy.
![]() Prof. Dr. G. Schatzl is chairman of the Prostate Workgroup of the Austrian Society for Urology and is involved in the development of these treatment methods. Since October 2006 it is possible to obtain prostate tissue by targeted ultrasound in the search for tumours. On request this method can also be performed under a short anaesthetic. Treatment with high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is offered as only minimally invasive method for treatment of the prostate tumour (Figure 2). The specialist: Univ. Prof. Dr. Georg Schatzl |
